#HypeWomen

Every four years, I love watching the Olympics and always get drawn in by the stories of the athletes. I was really looking forward to watching the US women’s gymnastics and the return of Simone Biles to the Olympic games. I’ve applauded her journey since her very public struggles in the 2021 Tokyo Games and was excited to see what she could do at the 2024 Games. Her inspirational and kick-ass run on Olympic medals was incredible to watch, but I was also really struck by how encouraging the gymnasts were to each other – regardless of what team they were on. I loved seeing the photo of the women gymnasts hyping each other on the medal podium and made me reflect on other times powerful women have publicly supported each other.

Some of these powerful moments of women supporting women are highlighted in the graphic below:

These snapshots are just a few of the times women #hypewomen, but the power of it continues to inspire me. This is what drives me to lead the Milwaukee meetup for The Real Estate InvestHER and to help lead a newly-formed real estate focus group within Female Founders in Hospitality.

The Real Estate InvestHER has an annual conference, which they usually close out by reminding all the attendees to support one and other with a special ceremony. This ceremony has all attendees holding a little LED candle and everyone standing in a large circle. All of the attendees then “light” each subsequent candle to their left one-by-one until the whole circle appeared like an illuminated halo. After a few words from the founder, the ceremony ends with one of the founders saying: “By lighting someone else’s candle, it doesn’t diminish your own light.” Here's a photo of the candle sitting on my desk:

Now go hype women and "light" some candles!
