“Wayne’s World” has been one of my favorite movies since I first watched it in 1994. One of the dozens of things that made me love the movie instantly was the scene where Wayne and Garth met my rock idol Alice Cooper. Not only was Alice gracious and cool to two of his adoring fans, Alice seemed very versed in a city that I knew nothing about – Milwaukee. After that fateful first watch of Wayne’s World, I would never have guessed that Milwaukee would be my home and headquarters some 27 years later.
When I first shared the news with my mostly West-Coast-based friends that my family and I were moving to Milwaukee, other than the quotes from Wayne’s World and references from 1970s TV shows, I got comments like “But why would you move THERE?! Isn’t that in one of the fly-over states?” Once we had moved, the confusion about where our new home base continued, with comments like: “How’s Michigan? Or was it Minneapolis? Wait! I’m sorry, you moved to Minnesota, didn’t you?” Thinking these comments were funny, I shared them with some of my new neighbors in Milwaukee and they replied with a miffed seriousness “Huh? We’ve been here all along.” If you don’t already live in the Midwest, you may have trouble pointing to Milwaukee on the map, but like Alice Cooper and my neighbor have said, Milwaukee has been around a long time and the perfect headquarters for the Jane Hotel Group.
Other than having to shovel snow in April/May on occasion, I have loved living in Milwaukee and exploring the surrounding Midwest destinations. While the Midwest is home to a few large primary hotel markets, the area is mostly made up of an assortment of secondary and tertiary hotel markets. Our strategy at Jane Hotel Group is tap into these sometimes-overlooked markets and find those hotel investment opportunities where we can make lasting impacts at the asset-level, employee-level, and community-level.
Reach out to learn more about Jane Hotel Group or if you want to swap Wayne’s World quotes – both I can emphatically do from my heart.
